Adelaide Oval is the home of Australian rules football clubs Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide Power. It is an oval arena primarily used for AFL and International and Domestic Cricket matches, with an attendance capacity of over 50,000. Located in Adelaide, it is about two kilometres from the city centre. The northern end of the stadium features "The Hill", a standing-room only area surrounding the heritage Adelaide Oval scoreboard, which has been standing for over one hundred years.

The Riverbank Bridge connects the Adelaide Oval with the CBD. Connections to rail and bus networks is very easy and on match days, it is all coordinated to ensure fans can get in and out without too much hassle.There are taxi ranks on the Western side of King William Road and on the Southern side of Pennington Terrace.

What to expect from the Adelaide Oval crowd?

Liverpool have 'You'll Never Walk Alone', Melbourne Victory has 'Stand By Me', and Port Adelaide Football Club competing in the AFL has 'Never Tear Us Apart'. Introduced last year, it's a spectacular sight seeing the crowd raise their scarfs above their heads singing in unison. Nice addition to the sporting experience at Port games.

There is a very very long list of apologies to many great eateries in Adelaide, but 2KW located on the corner of King and William Streets in the CBD tops the list. Described by 'Glam Adelaide' as the height of cool, this restaurant has it all. The signature dish is called 'Crayfish Indulgence' and if you want to sample this dish, you need to give 48hrs notice! The terrace bar and garden create an awesome atmosphere right in the heart of Adelaide.

Best Insider tip at Adelaide Oval?

Soak up the match day atmosphere by walking to the ground with the crowd from the CBD via the Riverbank Bridge. There's bound to be a fair bit of banter being thrown around, particularly for derby games in between the Crows and Power in the AFL. For a true Adelaide Oval experience, join the masses on the Northern Mound in the shadows of the Morton Bay Fig Trees and the old scoreboard.

Things to check out around Adelaide Oval?

I reckon it has to be McLaren Vale. We drive down on a Sunday and go to Fall From Grace in Willunga and do a bit of an alternative wine tasting. It's a sort of cellar door for the region's artisan winemakers who don't have a cellar door of their own. Afterwards we go to The Salopian Inn for dinner. The slow braised kangaroo tail with samphire is amazing. This place has got atmosphere and there's a decent wine list

Being on the doorstep of the CBD, there are lots of paid parking options around. There is a limited amount of paid parking right next to the Oval too, but you'll need a little bit of patience with the traffic afterwards. If you're willing to combine driving and public transport, look to park at a nearby plaza or similar eg. Welland Plaza on Port Road, and jump on a free tram for the rest.

Adelaide Oval seating?

Many locals will say that there is no better place to watch the footy or cricket than on the Mound at the Northern end, underneath the old scoreboard, and it's hard to argue with that. Only downside is its open to the elements, but for the authentic, Adelaide Oval experience, you can't go past it.

Merchandise booths sell supporter gear on match days right around the ground. Rebel Sport stores also sell licensed supporter wear too. Adelaide Oval specific merchandise can be purchased from a small store in the foyer of the Riverbank Terrace during business hours.

Best Bars near Adelaide Oval?

The Wright Street Hotel (near Chinatown) is one of the best. It's had a new fit-out and they have a small, solid wine list and I like the beers they have on tap. It's a bit of a sanctuary from the hustle of bustle of Peel Street and surrounds.
