Sardegna Arena Sports Fan Tips

Sardegna Arena is a venue in or near Cagliari that is most often used for Soccer

Sardegna Arena parking?

The new Stadium is right next to the old Stadio, around 4 km away from the centre of town – and with no small stations near the stadium, the only choice you have is by bus – if you don't want to take an overpriced taxi. During the week and weekends, your best bet is to take the Number 6. It stops at all the popular places in town and will deliver you straight to the stadiums car park. If you have come by car via the ferry, there is ample parking at the ground, which as you can probably guess, doesn't fill up a lot.

Sardegna Arena seating?

The Stadium might not be on the Italian mainland but it does follow the traditions of its counterparts. The Ultra style fans will be found in the North Stand, and even if you aren't too sure about spending 90 minutes with the die-hard Sardinian fans – the cheap ticket prices may change your mind. The fact that the stadium is brand new should give you some indication to the seat quality and comfort! You'll be hard pressed to find much better unless you visit the powerhouse stadiums of Italian football!

Best Bars near Sardegna Arena?

With the stadium being out from town a bit – you are probably best staying off in the city itself and then heading out to the game rather than trying to find a bar near the Stadio. Luckily, Caligari has rather a decent nightlife scene. Caffè degli Spiriti is a great terrace bar complete with great views of the sea, fantastic drinks and hammocks to laze around in and enjoy the Sardinian evening. Caffè de Candia is another bar built with the same vibe on the old walls of the city. If it is beer that you are after, then fear not! Caligari has a couple of very good craft beer joints that prove popular with the student crowd. Hop Corner is pretty self-explanatory, where Al Merlo Parlante is near the university and with over 12 beers on top, 100 bottles and delicious paninis – it's a great place to be.

Best Insider tip at Sardegna Arena?

If you can't make up your mind about which match to go to, you should look into seeing a Caligari game, when Palermo come to town. The Sardinia vs Sicily game is enormous amongst both sets of fans and is called Derby Delle Isole – or the Derby of the Islands!

Best Food and Drink at Sardegna Arena?

Despite being a brand new stadium, the area around the arena has not changed much and indeed inside it is still a bit lacking when it comes to refreshments. The locals here prefer to take their time over a meal, rather than the fast food culture that is so popular elsewhere. You will find some small snacks inside but if you are used to the ample supplies offered at grounds around the continent, I would bring a snack of two with you – or wait till after the game.

Best restaurants near Sardegna Arena?

With its status as Sardinia's capital, Caligari naturally has its pick of some wonderful seafood that you have to indulge in. Ristorante Martinelli's is a great restaurant with some first-class food. Though it is quite expensive you should go for the Antipasto Misto is a good choice – lots of smallish seafood dishes served quickly. For a great spot of lunch or dinner Pizzeria Federico Nansen ticks all the boxes. Serving what may be the best pizza on the island, you can choose as much as you want as you pay by kilogram here! Bombas Hamburgeria Sarda gives a great Sardinian twist on an 'American' burger restaurant. You won't be disappointed!

Safety at Sardegna Arena?

The brigade of away fans that come to watch Cagliari will never be that big – there is something about coming to an island to watch a football match that seems to put fans off, as such there is less friction between fans leading to an all around safer experience. There are ultra groups but just be sensible and you'll be fine.
