What to expect from the RheinEnergie Stadion crowd?

RheinEnergie Stadion is a venue in or near Cologne that is most often used for Soccer

FC Koln's willingness to incorporate standing room inside their stadium is fanatic – these ticket prices lower are than normal which means that the ground is a lot busier than it would be if the prices were extortionate. This near capacity stadium is so close to the pitch which really does create a special atmosphere! The songs and chants reverberate around the stadium for the whole game and the place erupts when a goal is scored! It's a great, friendly and passionate experience.

Football is a big thing in Cologne and the club itself has a very long and a very old tradition. Especially right before every match when everybody sings the club anthem, waves their flags and lifts their scarves high up into the air – total Goosebumps feeling! The fans themselves are very loud, active and cheerful. However, riots after a loss are more likely than in most other stadiums as the fans are very emotional. Still, regarding the atmosphere this is definitely a place to check out. Don't forget to bring out your red or white clothes, the team's colors!

Behind the southern end you can find the ultras, known as Wilde Horde, who have something of a reputation for being disruptive. This is usually concentrated on away games, particularly with local rivals, and not really an issue if you're visiting Cologne. You'll probably come away with a great impression of them, as they are loud, colourful and incredibly passionate. Away supporters are housed in the north east corner and usually well-policed. The potential for trouble is always there but in practice it is absolutely minimal, unless you count nasty words being shouted at you in German from behind a line of cops.
