For much of the race, you won't see the cars until they roar past you, and so most people are glued to the big screens that dot the circuit. It isn't a constant atmosphere like you get at football grounds with no songs and nowhere near the expletives, but the buzz is fantastic. The Le Mans 24 hour race also offers a really special atmosphere – the normal race vibe mixed with the camaraderie of a campsite and a fun of trying to stay up for as long as you can!

How do I get to Le Mans Bugatti?

If you are staying in the town of Le Mans itself and don't fancy driving to the circuit or have enjoyed a few drinks throughout the day, there are a few cheap options that you can take advantage of!The tram is probably the best way to get between the circuit and the town. Running all day from 5.30 am to 1:00am, it takes around 20 minutes to get to Le Mans Centre (Republique Station). The most convient place to catch the tram at the circuit is either from Antres Sud or Guetteloup. For just €1.40 a journey – it's great value.There is also a bus service that runs throughout the race weekend, running every 10-15 minutes, from 8:30 am on the Saturday to 18:30 on the Sunday!

If you come for the whole long weekend, then make sure you get trackside on Friday! The Friday is always a rest day for the drivers and the teams – and so the race organisers open up the pit lane to allow the spectators to get as close to the cars and garages as possible! Open from 10am to 8pm – it's something to check out!Also on the Friday, be sure to head down to Le Mans town in the evening and enjoy the festival atmosphere and a few beers as the drivers go on their open top car parade through the town – if you're lucky you might even get an autograph!There are also funfairs and concerts that go on at the circuit throughout the weekend – be sure to hop on the Ferris Wheel, it provides great photo opportunities!

There is lots of food and drink available at Le Mans, either in the campsites or in the Fan Village where most of the buzz can be found! Prices, as you can imagine, are a little on the spendy side however.A beer will set you back around €5 each, the same price as a glass of wine. If you feel like celebrating then a glass of Champagne is €12 or spring for a bottle at €50. Cups of tea and coffee to keep you going through the early hours are a tad expensive at €3 and an orange juice (freshly squeezed) is €6.Breakfast is priced around the same – with Pain au Chocolat being €3, Croissant and local Jam is €8, which is also the same price as a Bacon or Sausage Baguette.If you are camping, a lot of the camp sites offer a nightly BBQ and Salad Bar serving of buffet of burgers, sausages, chicken, salmon and dessert with a beer, wine or soft drink for €25

Even if you have a ticket for a specific grandstand, a great tip is to move around the circuit and drink it all in.The Start/Finish Straight is mostly occupied by large Grandstands – though if you don't have a designated seat there are steps that offer free seating through the race. If you want to see the start or the chequered flag though, I would get there early, as these get filled very quickly.If you are a keen photographer, there are few places better than the Dunlop Bridge! The most popular places and best sight lines are in front of the grandstand or at the bottom of the hill.Tetre Rouge has been changed in recent years and is now a lot more spectator friendly. As well as a large screen that broadcasts the race, there are big grass slopes that offer great views.If you only get to one corner, make sure it is the Arnage Corner – with a 90 degree right hand turn, there is guaranteed action!

At some point you will want to get a change of scenery and get back to the city and away from the loud circuit – luckily there are a few restaurants that will give you this escape as well as serving you a great meal.If you are looking for some classic French cuisine then take your pick of either La Villa, La Chamade Restaurant or Le Grenier a Sel.There is of course a bit of variety and if you don't feel like eating the local food, then why not try a bit of Italian food…Pizza Mao has some brilliant pizza, and with its location being just opposite L'Endroit Bar it's perfect after a drink or two. Though here's a tip – if you're nice, they will bring the pizza over to you if you can't drag yourself from the bar!Taj Mahal is also a fantastic Indian restaurant that offers a spice and a kick – keeping you awake throughout the night!
