What to expect from the The Den crowd?

For years Milwall has had a negative reputation among football fans, with violence and fan intimidation not uncommon. These has lessened in recent years but fans are still advised not to wear away team colors to avoid trouble. How do I get to The Den?

Milwall's Den is located in South East London and as such there are plentiful public transport options. There are three nearby tube stations. 'Surrey Quays' and 'New Cross Gate' are both a 15 minute walk from the stadium and are both served by the East London Line. The Jubilee Line serves 'Canada Water' station which is a bit further afield. All of these stations are in Zone 2 and so a single ticket from the city centre will cost £4.90 or buy a day ticket for £12.10South Bermondsey station is a 5 minute walk to the stadium, and also bus services 21, 53 and 172 drop off at nearby Old Kent Road.

Best Pubs around The Den?

The area around the Den has yet to be built up, and as such there aren't many local pubs for Milwall or away fans to drink at before the game. Therefore the place to drink is the area of London Bridge.The Shiprights Arms is very popular for fans seeking a pub with character - another pub similar to this is the 17th Century George Inn located on Borough High Street. For those wanting a bit more modern, the local Slug and Lettuce, is just up the road.Away fans are advised not to drink near the stadium and so the 'Market Porter' has become a popular away fans pub. The 'Market Porter' is frequently featured in London's Best Pubs guides and features 9 real ales on tap.

Although Milwall fans have certainly calmed down in recent years, away fans are still advised not to wear away colors to the game as it still might attract trouble.The area around The Den is very industrial and still developing so for pre match entertainment, it is best to stay around the London Bridge area!Milwall's local rivals are West Ham and Charlton Athletic, so the atmosphere on these game days will be even more electric.

Best restaurants near The Den?

The area around The Den is mostly commercial and industrial and as such there is a big lack of restaurants. The Old Kent Road area has some options such as McDonalds and KFC, as well as 'Fish Republic' takeaway on the way to the stadium.For more of a sit down meal, there is a highly rated Mexican restaurant 'Los Dos Amigos' as well as the African restaurant '805' on the Old Kent Road.There is a more upscale restaurant 'The Yellow House Bar and Kitchen' around half a smile from The Den, however this Italian restaurant will cost more than other local options and especially on a Saturday, it is advised to ring in advance and make a booking.

Best Food and Drink at The Den?

Milwall has a typical range of 'football' food available at the ground serving both home and away fans. Favorites include hamburgers and hot dogs for £4, cheese and onion pasties and a variety of pies for £3.50. These costs are slightly higher than the national average but for London, they really aren't unreasonable.There are also alcoholic beverages available including beers and wines. However like a lot of football grounds, you cannot take your drink to your seat.

Although the area around 'The Den' is rather underdeveloped, there are still somethings to do at the stadium itself. Milwall offers stadium tours for £12 and £6 for adults and children respectively. They also run stadium tours led by club legends where you will be able to go behind the scenes and experience The Den like a player, followed by a signing sessions, a Q and A and an exclusive limited edition gift. Prices are £22 and £12 for adults and children.The Den is also home to Milwall's club shop, open 7 days a week, including match days! 

The Den seating?

The Den is a newer stadium compared to many others, built in 1993. As such there isn't a 'bad seat' with restricted views in the house. The 'Cold Blow End Stand' is the most popular stand for Milwalls nosiest and more raucous fans, who ensure that The Den has a hostile atmosphere for visiting teams with tickets here ranging from £23-£26 for adults dependent on the opposition.The North Stand is exclusively for away fans, purposely situated farthest away from the 'Cold Blow End'.Milwall isn't all just rowdy fans though, they do offer a family fun section, with the 'Zampa's Family Club' with reduced ticket prices and fun activities for all the family including face-painting and photo opportunities with the mascots!
