Carrow Road Sports Fan Tips

Carrow Road is a venue in or near Norwich that is most often used for Soccer

How do I get to Carrow Road?

You can drive, of course, and there's a decent amount of parking at the stadium itself. However, since it gets full pretty quickly, you should consider looking around town for street or private parking too. The ground isn't far away from anywhere in Norwich, so you should be okay! By train, just get dropped at Norwich Station and walk directly there – 10 minutes tops. A taxi could get you there for a few quid if it's lashing down, or when you're feeling particularly lethargic!

Best Food and Drink at Carrow Road?

It's a UK football ground, so the cuisine is a far cry from any passable restaurant: it's pies (£3), hot dogs (£3.50) and sausage rolls (£2). The taste is pretty average, but you're there for the game, not the dining, so it gets a thumbs up from me for being hot and filling. Norwich City water their fans with all sorts of beverages, including a range of beers (£4-4.50), wine (£5), spirits (£5) and even quite fancy Rekorderlig cider for a fiver!

Best Pubs around Carrow Road?

Norwich is one of the best venues for getting the drinks in before a game. The Compleat Angler is the obvious target: 10 minutes from Carrow Road, cheap drinks, outdoor seating area by the river and even does food. Perfect for away fans. However, there are loads of pubs between town and the stadium, so you can pretty much wander wherever takes your fancy and still wind up somewhere inexpensive, busy and with a bit of atmosphere!

Best Insider tip at Carrow Road?

Parking is becoming more and more popular at Carrow Road, but the amount of parking isn't really changing. You can park at the Norfolk City Hall which is conveniently located pretty near the ground. At £6, it's not the worst deal you'll see if your time, but it does fill up fast: try arriving by 12-1pm to get a spot near the exit, or else you're looking at a long wait to get on the road home.

Carrow Road seating?

There's an allocation of 2,500 seats in the South Stand for away fans. Even the seats furthest from the pitch offer a fantastic view of the game, and the city provides an excellent backdrop past the stadium. Norwich have four different tiers for their tickets (A-D) which affect the price, with A the most expensive. Sitting in the central blocks (generally considered the best view) will cost £5 more per game, but you get what you pay for. If you're off to one side, you still won't be far from the action so it's nothing to worry about!

Best restaurants near Carrow Road?

While the stadium itself offers little (nothing) in the way of good food, the immediate area is awash with trendy bars, fine restaurants and great pricing. If you want to eat your fill of great meat and sides, try Yellows American Bar and Grill: it's nothing fancy, but it fills you up well. For more of a classy establishment, there's Delia's Restaurant and Bar: it's a restaurant in the name of Delia Smith herself- need I say more?

Things to check out around Carrow Road?

As a movie lover, I can't really avoid saying that the Odeon is a great shout. If you've had your share of sitting, eating snacks and enjoying your entertainment (which is fair, since you're going to a football game) then The Hollywood Bowl is a fun way to kick back and relax for a few hours. There's loud music, flashing lights and it's a bit showy, but overall a really fun afternoon with a bit of competition thrown in, at your discretion ;)

What to expect from the Carrow Road crowd?

Like many teams in England, the once-famed atmosphere of Carrow Road has dwindled down to a paltry amount of clapping and the occasional half-hearted anthem. The home fans seem to only get properly involved when their team is winning games and doing everything right; a good atmosphere needs that support for the full 90 minutes, and it has been lacking at Carrow Road of late. However, for away fans, they usually carry themselves proud and make the home crowd seem positively mute. If you travel to the game with the away supporters, you're in for a good time.
