What to expect from the New York Stadium crowd?

Friendliness and a good atmosphere. The Rotherham fans only ever have one thing on their mind: enjoying the football and egging on their favourite 11! There's none of the "don't wear your colours” concerns, and if it's a big team (in the FA cup perhaps) then it'll only make for a more exciting atmosphere! The crowd is allowed to filter outside for a smoke at half-time, which is a pretty nice touch and help keep people smiling!

Things to check out around New York Stadium?

A trip to Clifton Park and the Museum are always great shouts when in Rotherham! You know what they say "When in Rotherham…visit the park and museum.” Trust me, they say that. The park itself is a lovely expanse of green, gardens and trees which is just stunning on a nice day. The museum is free to enter and exceptionally informative, without being boring. Children have a great time there too, as it's not too cerebral!

Best Pubs around New York Stadium?

The New York is just a few minutes' walk from town, so there's pubs galore! It's also a small-time club, so the aggressive "get out of our pub” attitude isn't as prevalent here as with bigger clubs. There's no fewer than three Wetherspoons' in Rotherham, and they do permit away fans as a rule. Other options include the New York Tavern and Cutlers Arms just off the main street, on Westgate, which are friendly towards away fans and sell delicious beer!

How do I get to New York Stadium?

Easiest way is to get the train into Rotherham Central, which is an easy 5 minute walk to the stadium. Benefits of a smaller stadium, I guess! Another benefit of this stadium is that car parking only costs £2.80 for four hours in the huge multi-storey construction next to the bus station. Alternatively, try looking around town for some street parking or Pay and Display which will do the job. It's had to park more than 15 minutes away from the stadium, so you should be fine.

Best Food and Drink at New York Stadium?

I'd love to say that at the bottom of the championship in their small stadium, that Rotherham charged better prices for their food…but I'd be lying! It's £3.20 for a simple pie or a pasty, and nearly £4 for a hot dog or burger. The usual suspects are on the beer taps: John Smith's and Fosters are £3.40 a pint, bottles of Bulmers will cost £3.20 and wine is available for £4 a (tiny) bottle.

Best restaurants near New York Stadium?

I always knew Goodfellas was delicious, but turns out it's also the number #1 ranked restaurant in the whole of Rotherham on TripAdvisor, over 250 competitors! It is superb as well. There are of course delicious, oven-baked pizzas and calzones, but it doesn't stop there. Goodfellas does Italian as well as any other restaurant you'll find, and better than most. Great for the whole family, and they even offer gluten free options! Just a few minutes' walk from the stadium.

New York Stadium seating?

Since the stands are fairly steep (be careful on your climb up!) which keeps everyone right in the thick of the action and we can all appreciate that! The tickets max out at £25 for the good seats, which isn't much for a game against a Premier League contender, but don't expect a full stadium for every single game. You're allowed out to smoke at half-time, on account of the stadium being so small, which is cool.

Best Insider tip at New York Stadium?

There's not a great deal going on in Rotherham on a matchday, and that's the best part about it! Travel to the game nice and early and settle down in a comfortable chair in one of the many pubs which welcome home and away fans. Get a drink and have competitive, harmless banter with the other footie fans in the pub to get the full matchday experience. It'll be a great laugh and you'll meet some cracking people.
