GIO Stadium is a venue in Canberra
Not really a bad seat in the house. Keep an eye on the weather however as 75% of the seats are not undercover. Winters in the ACT can be extremely cold, so bear that in mind if you want to get a seat so you can put that rug over your legs!
Good selection of restaurants and food outlets within a 2km radius of the stadium. Pick of the bunch for me would be the 'Old Canberra Inn'. Good hearty food throughout the winter and a rotating selection of craft beers.
The stores inside the stadium sell all the merchandise for the Raiders and Brumbies. With the weather very cold in the middle of winter, those shops do a roaring trade for beanies and scarves!
Heaps of parking so it really depends on how much you want to pay. For Brumbies and Raiders games, there are changed traffic conditions with traffic wardens guiding cars through. Cost of parking isn't extortionate. If you're prepared to walk a bit further, street parking can be found not too far away.
Expect the normal bag checks upon entry, but this venue is very safe. Surrounds are also very safe when taking the normal precautions.
Try and get to a Brumbies vs Waratah's game if you can. The atmosphere is great and the two teams genuinely hate each other! Probably the hottest ticket for the year, so be organized!
Crowds for both Brumbies and Raiders games are very passionate. The Brumbies have enjoyed the greater success in recent years and still possess a world class playing list. There's a natural dislike for Sydney teams, particularly when the Waratahs are in town.
Follow the crowd on game day really. Public transport is pretty good to the venue. On game day, ticket holders are given free transport on buses from all the major interchanges from in town.
The Bolt Bar, within walking distance of the stadium is a great bar to meet mates and enjoy a beer pre/post games. Good selection of beers (pints around $8), plenty of big screens around, and good sporting atmosphere. Good bar menu too.
At the venue, you'll find all the normal fast food outlets and bars at standard prices. Nothing out of the ordinary here.
Heaps to do in the nation's capital. The Australian War Memorial is universally regarded as one of the best in the world. You can easily spend a couple of day wandering through the interactive exhibitions, and paying respects at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider.
