I got to experience Tim Tebow mania a few years ago while visiting family in Denver. The game was against the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers took the early lead in the first quarter, with a field goal by old timer Nick Novak. The Broncos grabbed the lead, when they returned an interception off Chargers’ quarterback Philip Rivers 55 yards for a touchdown which really got the crowd going. The Chargers responded, with another field goal by Novak. San Diego had a 23–10 halftime lead. The Broncos then benched quarterback Kyle Orton in favor of Tim Tebow. After a scoreless third quarter, the Chargers added to their lead with another field goal. The Broncos responded, when Tebow scrambled for a 12-yard touchdown (with a two-point conversion run by McGahee). Tebow then threw short touchdown pass to running back Moreno to pull the Broncos to within 26–24 with just over three minutes left in the game. The Chargers responded, with another field goal. The Broncos and Tebow tried to rally with 24 seconds remaining in regulation, but Tebow’s last-second hail mary pass into the end zone came up short. The thing I will remember is the chants of Tebow, Tebow, Tebow by the Denver Broncos’ fans. This was truly something special and it would have been great if Denver would have won but it was just not meant to be.
