Firhill Stadium Sports Fan Tips

Firhill Stadium is a venue in Glasgow

Things to check out around Firhill Stadium?

If you have the rest of the day or evening to spend a little time, then I wholly recommend taking a trip out to the West End. You can hop on the Subway and be there in a jiffy. If you're looking for drinks or food somewhere nice, then you can't do better than Ashton Lane; it's a classic, cobbled street with quaint little bars and a great vibe. The rest of the West End has great shopping, museums and arts & culture spots, so you're bound to find something you like.

Best Insider tip at Firhill Stadium?

The trouble with old stadiums is that back in the day, they couldn't be built without supporting pillars in the stands. This means obstructed views for a very small percentage of fans, as is the case in the Main Stand. However, don't panic if you get a ticket for an obstructed-view seat – with a bit of patience, you should be fine. Games rarely sell out entirely, so keep your eyes peeled for the first 5-10 minutes and then go grab an empty seat. Odds are you'll be safe for the whole game!

Firhill Stadium seating?

It's unfortunate for away fans that they are usually housed in the Main Stand, as it is pretty ancient and has a bunch of supporting pillars which could obscure your view. However, the rest of the stadium offers quite good views. Everyone is close to the action, so you don't have to worry about being "too high up” or "stuck at the back”. Seats are about £20 a game, which is pretty reasonable.

Best restaurants near Firhill Stadium?

Featuring in the Michelin Guide, the wittily-named West End restaurant Turnip & Enjoy (get it?) has got to be on your list of places to eat. They take classic Scottish and British dishes and just improve them; there's fresh seafood, delicately made desserts and mouth-watering flavour all over. It's a sublime restaurant. If you want more of a choice, just head into the West End and enjoy an abundance of edgy cafés and fine restaurants.

Best Bars around Firhill Stadium?

Closer to the town centre than any other stadium in Glasgow, there's no shortage of options in there. Try Sauchiehall Street, which is lined with tonnes of bars and not far from the venue. A pleasing alternative would be the social club that's actually inside the Main Stand at the stadium: it's free to enter, for everyone, and you can get food and drinks inside. Alternatively, there's Munn's Vaults on Maryhill Road, just a few minutes' walk away.

What to expect from the Firhill Stadium crowd?

The crowd are a great laugh. Because it's quite an intimate venue (at least as football stadia go), there's more of a community and team feeling than usual. While there's usually good banter between the home and away fans, don't be an idiot and start provoking anyone, or you might have trouble where usually there is none. If you can decipher the Glaswegian accents, then have a go at joining in the chorus of some chants!

How do I get to Firhill Stadium?

Most fans will make their way across via Glasgow City Centre, which makes your best option is to take the Subway. The Glasgow Underground has stops at Kelvinbridge and St George's Cross; both are a short walk from Firhill and it's only about £3 for a return ticket. You can get the Subway from Queen Street in the middle of town. It's a small venue, so finding street parking in the area is usually pretty simple. Just follow signs toward Maryhill and you'll be sorted.

Best Food and Drink at Firhill Stadium?

Unlike many football grounds – but perhaps unsurprising given its size – Firhill offers its food at a fairly reasonable rate! Bog standard pies are £2.20 a pop, while the deluxe options are £2.50. Jumbo sausage rolls come in at £2. You can then get tea, coffee, juice and some confectionary, making it a pretty well-rounded (if dreadfully unhealthy) menu. There's no alcohol sold within the stadium, as with all Scottish grounds.
