Things to check out around OPEL ARENA?

OPEL ARENA is a venue in or near Mainz that is most often used for Soccer

Mainz is a very historical town, and you can spend hours wandering through its streets marvelling at the architecture of its buildings. This marvel will be amplified at Mainzer Dom. The cathedral is a spectacular sight to behold! One of Mainz's prized features is also the Gutenberg Museum – dedicated to educate you about the world of printing, it's a fascinating way to spend a few hours!

As stated before, the Opel Arena is pretty far from the city center. If you are looking for any sights close to the venue you might want to check out the "Roman Aqueduct” or the "Botanic Gardens”, both about 1.5km from the stadium (walking time 10 minutes). However, I highly recommend the beautiful old town before getting to the arena. You will find the famous "Mainzer Dom” and other historical buildings as well as great museums. The city is, by the way, beautifully located next to the Rhine which makes a relaxing stroll through the city center worth it, too.

Mainz is a party city, known all over Germany for the elaborate Carnival celebrations in February and March. Outside of these times, there is still plenty of reasons to enjoy the local flavour, with two particular delicacies worth a go. Spundekäse is whipped cream cheese with raw onions, dish out on a fresh bretzel, guzzled down with a beer, while Handkäse is pungent mix of sour cheese, vinegar, oil and seeds. Try the former first, drink a few beers, and then have a crack at the latter.
