Best Pubs around Riverside Stadium?

Quite a few venues put together "on-site” pubs for fans when there aren't many drinking establishments in the area; sadly, Middlesbrough isn't one of them. Doctor Browns is only 10 minutes' away (with quality drinks!) and the atmosphere is friendly, welcoming football fans on a matchday. Apparently Lord Byron is pretty friendly to away fans, and offers a 4-pint Carling jug for a tenner! Five minutes away by foot, which is a bonus.

How do I get to Riverside Stadium?

Unfortunately there is no shuttle bus service from Middlesbrough station, so you'll have to suck it up and take on the 15-20 minute walk. It's not bad at all, but if the weather or a sore leg puts up a serious fight, you can always get a taxi for a few pounds.Driving is a common choice, as there is some parking at the venue and a host of private car parks in the immediate surroundings. Parking spaces can be booked for the stadium, online, and cost £6 per car, per day.

What to expect from the Riverside Stadium crowd?

The atmosphere at Riverside isn't quite as reliable as it once was, with fans a little disappointed to find themselves fighting relegation back to the Championship. However, the brass have taken action and introduced a singing section called the Red Faction, which is supposed to help provide a bit of atmosphere at the game. Though a little forced, it does help get the home crowd out of their shells and invite a bit of rivalry to the usually raucous away support!

Things to check out around Riverside Stadium?

Any adrenaline junkies out there? You can throw yourself off the Tees Transporter Bridge (safely attached to a bungee cord, of course) and experience the incomparable rush of hurtling full-speed towards the ground, and the whole-body relief of stopping just short and flying around a bit. It really is superb fun and well organised. Not for the faint hearted of course (there are museums for those looking for some quiet reflection!) but a great rush for those who want put a spin on a normal matchday.

Riverside Stadium seating?

It ticks the 3 main boxes for me: good legroom, excellent views and fairly comfortable chairs. Away fans are set up in the East Stand, which offers a splendid overview of the pitch. With 3,000 fellow supporters in tow, there's a hell of an atmosphere if you're a traveller! For home fans, the West Stand definitely offers the best viewing, so upper tier tickets over that way are the most sought-after. There's a lot of singing with the Red Faction in the South Stand, if you'd rather get involved in the chanting!

Best restaurants near Riverside Stadium?

One of the good things about the Riverside Stadium (stylish look and good facilities aside) is that it's located near to quite a few eateries! There's the Brasserie Hudson Quay, which is great dining with a picturesque view of the quay. Romantic, if you're out with your SO. Suitable for large groups looking for a tasty bite post-match, The Six Medals is a hugely popular choice. They do simple fare, but exceptionally well, and offer a bright and vibrant atmosphere.

Best Insider tip at Riverside Stadium?

While the parking near the stadium isn't terrible, a cheeky find by some local experts lets us know that when driving to the match along the A66, you should follow the 'away coaches' signs. Of course, you don't go all the way, but an array of private parking options will open up for you within an easy walk of the venue. At around £4 a car, it's a convenient option compared to lugging yourself around the stadium, hoping for a space!

Best Food and Drink at Riverside Stadium?

What isn't there to eat?! You've got pies for £2.90, tiny pizzas for £3 and burgers or hot dogs at around £3.50. What more could you want? There's also the somewhat mysterious "parmo in a bun”, a sort-of Middlesbrough classic made from cheese sauce and chicken with breadcrumbs. It's £4.20, so decide carefully whether or not you want to experiment! The drinks are pretty standard, with Fosters, John Smiths and Bulmers cider available, with a few small bottles of wine for the classy fellows.
