SAP Center is a venue in or near San Jose that is most often used for Hockey
All of the restaurants listed in the 'best food and drink' question also serve alcohol, but if you just want a straight-up bar, there are several excellent choices. Superior places to quench your thirst include: Good Karma Vegan Cafe, ISOBeers, San Pedro Square Market, Original Gravity, Firehouse No. 1 Gastropub, and Patty's Inn.
SAP Center doesn't have much in the way of artifacts. My favorite artifact is the Zamboni ice resurfacer.
Bring ear plugs! SAP Center aka The Shark Tank is well-known as one of the loudest areas in the National Hockey League. Save yourself from unnecessary headaches and hearing loss by BYO earplugs. Shhh.
Use the GPS on your smartphone to find the best route. If you don't have GPS or your phone is dead, get on CA 87/Guadalupe Pkwy, take the W Santa Clara St exit. Smartphone apps to help you avoid traffic include: Beat the Traffic, Sigalert, and Waze.
The best giveaways come with the purchase of Authentic Sharks Fan tickets. Giveaways for the latest season were Sharks-themed blankets, T-shirts, scarves and sunglasses.
Whether you consider traffic around SAP Center a problem depends on what you are used to. Public transportation, carpooling, and transport services are all available and are recommended. If you do drive yourself, your best bet is to get there early and park at a lot not necessarily closest to SAP. You may have to walk a bit more, but you'll save many minutes being stuck in post-game traffic.
Ignore scalpers and they'll go away. The last thing you want to do is pay good money for fraudulent tickets.
Don't walk around alone in the SAP Center neighborhood at night! Walk with a group and stay alert. If you have a vehicle, lock it and stow belongings out of sight in the trunk.
There's not a whole lot to do in the immediate vicinity of SAP Center, not gonna lie. If you don't mind walking 7-8 blocks East, you can visit The Tech Museum of Innovation as well as some hotels and restaurants.
If you don't have to park, don't! Take public transport, ride share, bike, or carpool. If you must, park at a lot a few blocks away closer to San Pedro Square so you don't get bogged down in traffic.
Fans at SAP Center are loud and friendly. Be sure to wear Sharks gear or colors of turquoise and black with a smile and you'll have a great time. Maybe you'll even make some new friends!
SAP Center seats about 18,000 people. Suites have comfortable chairs and nice ambiance. Regular seats are fine, although some people find the stairs between sections to be a bit steep.
Best places to eat before a game are located about 8 blocks East of SAP Center. Popular places include The Britannia Arms pub, Poor House Bistro New Orleans Joint, Henry's Hi-Life bbq, The Farmer's Union American tavern, and Amici's East Coast Pizzeria. Hungry yet?
For Sharks gear and memorabilia, you can hit up the Sharks Store at SAP Arena open during all home games and Tuesday through Saturday 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., or the official Sharks online store at http://shop.nhl.com/San_Jose_Sharks_Gear/source/BM-NHLcom-TeamSite-Shop-Tab-SanJoseSharks.
The Grill restaurant at SAP Center is a nice decent sit-down place to eat before a game. Entrees start at $24 and are pleasant enough. Menu specials include an avocado beet salad, California Sole, and New York steak. Make reservations, relax in the knowledge that you don't have to rush and realize that you're paying for convenience.
