Known as 'the sport of kings' internationally, horse racing holds a special place in the hearts of Australians. Whilst racing events are held all year, the major carnivals take place in the Spring and Autumn, culminating in the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington Racecourse and The Championships at Sydney's Royal Randwick. Schedules are announced in July. During the warmer months famous country cups and selected night racing meetings also attract good attendances.
