Estadio Municipal de Riazor Sports Fan Tips

Estadio Municipal de Riazor is a venue in La Coruna

How do I get to Estadio Municipal de Riazor?

It's less than a 20 minute walk from the town centre. Given it's sunny just about every day in Riazor, there's no reason not to enjoy a chilled-out walk instead of driving. If you do take the car, there's no official stadium parking so it could be quite a hassle finding a spot. You can get either the number 3 or the number 7 bus from town, and stop at either Rua Manuel Murguia (for the North Stand) or Avenue de la Habana (South Stand). The train station is 2.5km from the stadium, so you're looking at a 25-30 minute walk if you go by foot.

Things to check out around Estadio Municipal de Riazor?

You have to go visit the Tower of Hercules. It is the oldest Roman lighthouse still standing at nearly 1,900 years old! A truly incredible sight, and a real testament to man's ability to create. There is information displayed all around the site, so you can learn all about its rich history – the views from the tower are also superb, and on a clear day you can see for miles and miles around! It costs €3 to get in, and it's a fairly steep climb which you won't regret.

Best Food and Drink at Estadio Municipal de Riazor?

The great thing about attending a match at el Estadio Municipal de Riazor is that there are so many inexpensive, local and delicious restaurants and take-away eateries surrounding the stadium. Well that, and the fact it practically sits on the beach. While there are some food options available at the stadium, you're much better off getting a good meal beforehand and supplementing that with some fine grub and drinks after the game. The food is just too good!

Best restaurants near Estadio Municipal de Riazor?

Artabria is a really nice spot, offering quite a luxurious dining experience (tablecloths and all) just outside the stadium and round a corner. There are more unusual options – such as Japanese at the Art and Sushi – or Indian at the Taj Mahal in the area too. All three offer pretty diverse menus, and they're all just a hop, skip and a jump away from the glorious playa with its white sand and deep blue water. About halfway along the beach sits Comer y Picar, a traditional Galician restaurant which will appeal to anyone looking to dip themselves into the local culture.

Estadio Municipal de Riazor seating?

Deportivo have been hunting for a refurbishment for around 15 years now, and they aren't any closer to it. Apparently the designs will be implemented if Spain hosts a major sports tournament, but that hasn't happened in a while. The seats are okay (ie not too uncomfortable) but the stadium does feel a bit run down. The views from the back of the North Stand can be disappointing, as they are set very deep into the stand with the roof overhanging it tightly. Other than that, decent stadium with pretty good views elsewhere!

Best Bars around Estadio Municipal de Riazor?

Based where it is, just a pebble's throw from the beach, there are innumerable options for quenching a thirst! Playa Club (that's Spanish for beach, not a hotspot for playaaas) is really cool and sits right on the sand. Slightly further inland is Artabria – which also does food – but my personal favourite is the Milagro "Day and Night Bar”. It's really trendy, with colourful stools and a modern bar, and sits just slightly further along the beach from Playa Club.

What to expect from the Estadio Municipal de Riazor crowd?

The unique placement of Depor's stadium (right on the beach front) means that loads of fans come to the game in high spirits. There is an air of positivity and (perhaps slightly forced) optimism, as the team is usually fighting to avoid relegation back down to La Primera Division. They back their team 100% against everyone in the league – doesn't matter if it's Barcelona or the bottom-ranked side – and bring good energy to each game. After a win, the beach is a party afterwards!
