Estadio Mendizorrotza Sports Fan Tips

Estadio Mendizorrotza is a venue in or near Vitoria that is most often used for Soccer

Best Bars around Estadio Mendizorrotza?

If you're looking for a cheeky pre-game pint (or a few post-game commiserations) then your best bet is to stay in town for them. There's nothing around the stadium itself, and since it's such a short walk to/from the venue, you won't be in any rush. There's Pub Lipp, which comes highly recommended and has a really striking decor; I liken it to being on a grand cruise ship a hundred years ago. Burdina Pub is another superb option, though it is slightly further away, the outdoor tables make for ultimate relaxation.

What to expect from the Estadio Mendizorrotza crowd?

The crowd can ebb and flow a little, at least when compared to some other teams in La Liga. As a team that sometimes struggles for form, the enthusiasm and fight of the fans can die down a little, at times. However, that's a minority and I don't want to paint a false picture of most games! Generally the crowd really gets behind the lads on pitch and offers up a great wall of noise (amplified by the fully enclosed stadium and overhanging roof) which really gets the adrenaline flowing. Best of all, they're a really friendly bunch of people!

Best restaurants near Estadio Mendizorrotza?

The only restaurant based really close to the stadium is Asador Orio, which offers a range of different meats, all cooked and seasoned to mouthwatering perfection. A slightly longer walk (along the same road) will bring you to the Urdiña Restaurant, a pretty fancy dining establishment with white tablecloths and a huge selection of fine wines! For anyone perhaps enjoying a romantic weekend, this is a great option. Continue to walk towards town and you'll be greeted with a dozen more options, so you should be all set, whatever your tastes.

Best Food and Drink at Estadio Mendizorrotza?

It's the usual football grub on offer, in the form of Americanised burgers and hot dogs! While some fans lament this style of catering, the fact of the matter is it fills you up nicely and keeps you warm during the game. The prices aren't the most enjoyable, but we've come to expect that at football games. I'm not sure what their policy on selling alcohol is, but you definitely can't bring your own drinks in with you. If you're looking for some quality food, maybe go searching for it after the game!

How do I get to Estadio Mendizorrotza?

Personally I'd just walk. If you're arriving into the main train station, it's only 15 minutes by foot, and maybe 5 minutes longer if you're coming from town (pretty common for those who have nipped over for a pint or two before kick-off!). You can get a taxi for a few euros. Failing that, the Line 2 bus runs past the stadium - the stop is called Mendizorrotza so you shouldn't have any trouble finding it!There is parking at the stadium, but the odds of getting a space really vary from week to week! The best thing to do is get there nice and early to reserve your spot and then maybe go for a drink or a bite to eat while you pass the time!

Best Insider tip at Estadio Mendizorrotza?

Unlike some Spanish clubs who seem to be stuck in the dark ages, Alaves actually allow you to buy their tickets online, without having to call the stadium personally to order. This is a nightmare for non-Spanish-speaking fans, so I'm happy to report it isn't the case here. However, they do only release tickets a few days to a week ahead of the fixture, so you may need to be quick off the mark to get a) the best, or your favourite, seats, and b) tickets against one of the top clubs like Barca or Real which always attract the biggest crowds! Be proactive about buying your tickets!

Things to check out around Estadio Mendizorrotza?

I hope you enjoy walking and seeing beautiful sights, cause that's a large part of what any trip to Vitoria requires! The Cathedral of Santa Maria is absolutely stunning; sheer walls, intricate carvings and sculptures. Similarly there is the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca which is a great open space to relax in, or a cool way to explore some of the older buildings in the area. If you prefer to keep on the move and be amongst the wildlife, then stroll through Parque de la Florida and enjoy the scenery!

Estadio Mendizorrotza seating?

As a single-tiered stadium which is both fully enclosed and set fairly closed to the pitch itself, the seating can hardly be faulted. There are very few bad seats (maybe those at the very rear, but they also have the most elevation!) and the chairs themselves are nice and comfortable - always a sign that a club cares about its fans! Smartly, there's a huge video screen built into the stadium where you can watch action replays or keep a worried eye on the clock as it counts down - really great stadium, highly rate it!
