How do I get to DW Stadium?

DW does its best to cater to away fans (something we very much appreciate!) and offers a car park specifically for them. It's £5 for your car (or motorbike, sadly) but it puts you right next to the stadium, so there's no question it's worth it. Try to get there nice and early (a few hours before kick-off, easily) to get a space near the exit; parking near the back (or even the middle) could leave you stuck for a long time post-match.The train stations are about 20 minutes' walk from the DW, but the 621 bus will take you from Wallgate to the Red Robin, a pub right by the stadium!

Best Pubs around DW Stadium?

For away fans visiting the DW, it's all about the Red Robin. It's an away-friendly watering hole which has the perfect vibe before a game: lots of excited chatter, plenty of smiles and comfortable chairs. Otherwise it's a 20-minute walk into town (not too bad) where there are a number of other options, most notably the Moon Under Water (a Wetherspoons, of course) which is cheap, busy and fun.

DW Stadium seating?

The 4,800 seats allocated to travelling fans are in the North Stand, which offers a pretty great view of the pitch. The legroom is, unlike many stadiums, more than adequate and makes such a difference for us taller folk – well done Wigan! In terms of price, it varies from game to game: more popular matches (rivalries or playing bigger clubs) cost up to 25% more than the rest. It still only comes to £25 or so, which makes it a pretty cheap venue.

Best restaurants near DW Stadium?

There are a few filling options just by the stadium, like Frankie and Benny's or the Jamal Indian Restaurant: neither is exactly haute cuisine, but both offer tasty menus, large portions and a sensible price tag. If you're willing to a bit further into town, then the Gallimore restaurant is much higher end stuff. Every dish is superbly presented, uses fresh ingredients and tastes wonderful. There's live music from time to time as well, which is a lovely accompaniment.

It's nothing but the finest fare at the DW Stadium, with Michelin star Chef…okay, fine: it's the usual footie ground grub. You can grab a pie (which, to be fair, are pretty tasty) for £2.40 or a hot dog for £2.70. The concourse is absolutely rammed (i.e. small) during half-time, so might be worth holding off until after the game to get your fill. There are a few restaurants/eateries within a stone's throw. Best Insider tip at DW Stadium?

While most near-stadium bars are manned by fiercely (or aggressively) passionate home fans, Wigan have two separate marquee bars right next to the stadium: one for each group! There's a bar with plenty of drinks options some simple matchday foods besides. For the drivers, there's tea and coffee to enjoy while gluing your eyes to the big screen that sits inside.Of course, being the most conveniently located venue, it can get pretty busy. If you don't mind a bit of a wait in the queue, you can't do much better!

What to expect from the DW Stadium crowd?

The stand just adjacent to the away area (left of the North Stand) is where the rowdier Wigan fans assemble. There's a good bit of singing, lots of chanting, cheering, hissing and oooh-ing at the right moment, so it's a pretty fun experience. The stadium is pretty loud, so that helps build a bit of atmosphere, even during a quiet game. There aren't many issues between fans, so you should be safe to display your colours (sensibly) to/from the game.
