There are of course a multitude of places where you can spend a lot of money and enjoy a fabulous meal. However, Rome has so many fantastic restaurants that you don't have to break the bank to tantalise your taste buds! Birra e Sale and Pane e Salame are have some of the best paninis and sandwiches in the city and are filled with some wonderful ingredients. Pane e Salame also have some wonderful meat and cheese boards that the staff will be really glad to talk to you about. Pizzarium is a pizza by the slice place near the Vatican – and while it is more of a 'hole in the wall' than a restaurant – the pizza has become globally renowned in recent years and it is easy to see why. The toppings do change day to day (maybe more than once in a day) but whatever you get – you'll be glad you got a slice or two.
