Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a venue in or near Indianapolis that is most often used for Motor Racing
You do have to be safe at the Motor speedway (have you ever seen Final Destination 3 or 4) because of flying tires, fires, crashes but overall the inside in safe. Outside the surrounding area isn't the best and there are rowdy and drunk fans too so just be careful on who you talk too.
There is seating all around the one part of the track and then on the infield. You can also watch from the huge video screens as well. You can try to pay more and sit in the infield or pay more and have a seat.
There isn't much traffic until you come to the exit of the speedway and then it backs up because there is no place to go but get there early so you don't have to deal with it.
The Speedway has a lot of good food but the lines can be horrendous. They need to revamp the Speedway in the next year or two to accommodate all the guests. They have good BBQ, fries with different toppings, burritos, hot dogs, and drinks.
There are scalpers but you can generally get your ticket in advance and its not something you want to wait last second for and try to get from scalpers.
They have a small store and there are teams and sponsors tents, and racing teams selling gear all over the grounds. You can get t=shirts, car decals, hats, etc.
Scotty's Brewhouse and Dawsons are the two places people go to. There is also people BBQ in the tailgating part of the speedway and in the inner grass area. There are also food trucks selling unique items.
There are real no giveaways. There are vendors giving free red bull, coke zero, and other sponsors before the race but nothing that says whooaa!
The fans are part of the experience and you have your hillbilly Dukes of Hazzard people, top notch celebrities, business folks, families, and everything in between. These people and the mixing of them are entertainment in itself.
Dawson's on Main is the place everyone goes too and can get filled up fast. Many other people tailgate and sneak drinks into the speedway.
There is not much around the Speedway and you can take a drive to downtown Indianapolis and check out the Pacers or Colts if they are playing. They also have a children's museum that my kids love.
There is history all around the place and make sure to arrive early and get a picture by the bricks and the finish line and try to get close to the cars and pit crew. They also have lots of pictures and artifacts showing the history and winners of the Indy 500.
The Speedway is in Indianapolis just outside the Capitol and other stadiums. The exact address is 4790 W 16th St and you can tell you are there when you get to Main street.
Get to the Speedway early and go down and check out the track, take a picture with the bricks by the finish line and try to spot celebrities and others. You can also get close to the cars and pit which is a very neat experience.
Parking is expensive but just realize this is a once in a lifetime experience and make a whole day out of it.
