I sometimes lack of words to describe the amazing atmosphere inside the arena. There’s a reason that the Brose Bamberg fans are called ‘Freaks’ and that the stadium is called ‘Hell of Franconia’. Especially, when the team plays in international competitions or against rivals like Bayern Munich you will be surprised how loud it can get. Even as a football fan myself, I gotta give it to the ‘Freaks’ regarding atmosphere, enthusiasm and passion. What a place to be and what a team to cheer for!
Another tip: Be there early as the Bamberg fans usually have something planned regarding a choreography or something likely before a game. They are super creative!
Despite not being the NBA, the European Basketball League actually has rather a good following and games at the Brose Arena actually tend to sell out. The club makes a big deal out of having and promoting supporter’s groups which means that the atmosphere at the games is usually great! There is a band section of the court, with drums and instruments that keep playing throughout the game which makes the small arena very atmospheric.
Bamberg is possibly the only city in Germany that take basketball more seriously than football so you can expect a passionate and knowledgeable crowd. That said, basketball is a generally more genteel affair than football and there’s no threat of trouble, unless it is a big European match with a team from Turkey, Greece or the Balkans. These teams tend to have large travelling supports that bear more resemblance to football fans – often the clubs are the same – and there can be issues. You’ll know that they’re coming because tickets will be much harder to get and police presence will be robust, so realistically you’ll be fine.
